World Password Day 2025: your annual reminder that "Password123" isn't fooling anyone!   

It’s that day of the year when we all collectively pretend that we'll finally create better passwords other than our pet's name followed by our birth year, unless your dog’s name is Kl8*a3x+2W! 

The Password “hall of shame” 

Attacks are on the rise and attackers’ methods are becoming more sophisticated. Having a weak password effectively provides an open door to your information and data, with a welcome mat saying “steal me!”. 

There are still far too many examples where simplistic passwords are being used including: 

• password 

• 123456 

• qwerty 

• letmein 

• Admin 

Some considerations 

1. Use a password manager - adopt technology and let this remember the impossibly complex passwords while you remember just one master password.
2. Enable Multi-Factor Authentication across all accounts - waiting for that text code is frustrating. You know what's more frustrating? Identity theft! 
3. Three random words - the best way to make your password difficult to hack is by using a sequence of three random words you’ll remember. You can even include special characters to make it even more secure!

Microsoft 365 accounts are targeted by hackers using a high-speed brute force password attack methodology.

The bottom line 

Your online security isn't just about protecting cat videos and food pics - it's about your financial information, private conversations, and digital identity. 

So, whilst enjoying the sunshine this World Password Day, spend fifteen minutes of your time updating your passwords.
