Training Manager, now Cyber Security Consultant

How did the skills and values that you gained during your time in the Armed Forces, as well as the challenges you came up against, help you to carve your current career?

The most relevant skill that I gained during my time in the Army that helped me break into Cyber Security is adaptability. And without a doubt, all the core values you ingrain whilst serving goes a long way.

Could you describe a specific situation at Methods where your military background gave you a unique perspective or approach to solving a problem?

Red team and blue teaming was one of the many exercises which reminded me of command tasks/group tasks that take place during Army selection. I used that approach to help my team solve the problems we faced.

What aspects of your current role most closely align with your military experience?

Ensuring that individuals are following the correct protocols and policy would be the something that aligns close to my military experience. Compliance checks and risk assessment would be another task closely related.

What advice would you give to employers about recognising and utilising the value that veterans can bring to their organisations?

Motivated/willing veterans, if trained/educated right, can pretty much learn anything and adapt to any environment. Values and skills they bring to the table also makes them an extremely valuable asset to the organisation.

What would you advise to someone who is looking to seek employment post a military career?

Start exploring your options early and if possible get a taste of what you want to do post military through volunteering, internship, bootcamp, etc.
