How did the skills and values that you gained during your time in the Armed Forces, as well as the challenges you came up against, help you to carve your current career?
It helped me to remain calm in any situation and also how to think critically to solve problem I have never faced before.
Could you describe a specific situation at Methods where your military background gave you a unique perspective or approach to solving a problem?
With the problem based learning tasks I used a lot of my transferable skills to help break down the problem and communicate it effectively when delivering.
How did you identify and target the security/risk management sector as your post-military career path?
I was looking to get into a technical environment that could always keep my mind engaged and cyber security seems to tick all of the boxes for me from what I'd want from a job.
What additional training or certifications did you pursue to bridge the gap between military and civilian security work?
I undertook a lot of Google's Course certifications and did a lot of self-study. The only certification that I got that was industry-recognised was the Open FAIR Risk Assessment Level 1 course.
What aspects of the Armed Forces leadership style have you found most valuable in your corporate consulting role?
Making decisions quickly even without complete information, then dynamically adapting and adjusting your approach as you progress through solving the problem.
What advice would you give to employers about recognising and utilising the value that veterans can bring to their organisations?
To recognise that veterans have a lot of skills that do not have formal qualifications behind them. So I would always recommend that employers hear them out and gauge their abilities on their experiences.
