Challenge
By leveraging innovation, technology, and data, the MoJ aims to develop digital services that better support its key priorities and enhance access to services.
The MoJ Prisons Technology Transformation Programme (MoJ PTTP) is a key initiative within this vision, focusing on improving end-user computing capabilities across the prison estate.
Ensuring print and scan facilities operate smoothly is vital for maintaining order and promoting the well-being of everyone within the prison environment.
Solution
1. Prison visit discovery to observe the Prison Onsite Support team, gaining first-hand insight into the current service provision.
2. Further discovery across multiple prisons assessed if print issues varied by prison type and whether problems were isolated or widespread.
3. Non-operational staff and prison on-site staff survey analysis and interviews conducted.
4. Recommended Action Plan published and presented to the MoJ which was accepted in its entirety.
Impact
The Recommended Action Plan’s intention was to:
• improve operational effectiveness, reliability, and stability of print and scan services
• reduce costs associated with maintenance and repair
• modernise and scale of print services across the prison estate
• ensure staff were adequately trained
The result? A modernised system that will enhance daily operations and support the MoJ's digital transformation journey.
