Rounding off our Q&A Series with some of our inspirational women at Methods, is Mina, Consultant Delivery Manager ready to break down the barriers...

Q. What inspired you to pursue a career in technology, and how has your journey led you to your current role?

I have been inspired by how fast paced and innovative the technology sector is! Technology is part of our lives and future generations to come. Working in an user-centred environment means that we shape technologies that enhance the user experience and are accessible and inclusive for all. Working closely with clients and achieving innovative solutions for the wider public brings me a lot of satisfaction!

Q. What advice would you give to women looking to start a career in tech?

I would review your education and employment background and determine what the skills are that you have developed over. Women tend to downplay how strong they are in certain skill areas; be as confident when doing this exercise. Once completed, keep in mind everything is transferable into the tech industry and working out how to convey this will place you in good stead to break into the industry. If you have a list of the companies you are interested in, keeping an eye out for both job postings, and being in touch with the recruiters will land you a role. Be bold, and be brave.

Q. Why is it important to hire women in technology?

A diverse workforce brings a variety of viewpoints which can lead to more innovative ideas and solutions. I currently work in a cross-functional team, and this exemplifies the value of different skills and approaches coming together to solve the same problem. Hiring women also helps change the mould for the future generations. Breaking the barriers now will inspire a shift, that will gradually change the gendered stereotype of certain careers and fields being just for “men”. The future starts now!
